an introduction to eastern philosophy for a western audience through the allegory of winnie the pooh. hoff wrote the book while working as a tree pruner at the portland japanese garden in oregon--upon publication, it spent 49 weeks on the "new york times" bestseller list and has sold over a million copies to date. hoff published a companion, "the te of piglet" in 1992 to similar success. in 2006 he denounced the publishing industry and resigned from book-writing.
