first american edition, 1960.

sir noël coward was known for his wit, flamboyance, and what time magazine referred to as "a sense of personal style, a combination of cheek and chic, pose and poise." coward's fiftieth play is set in a retirement home for actresses. conflict unfolds between two women who both once loved the same man. the play was well-recieved by the public when it premiered in london, but critics did not have the same favorable view. years later the play had its broadway debut on the american stage in 1999 to slightly more positive reviews.
