dorothy haze, the titular clergyman's daughter, loses everything after a sudden onset of amnesia. of all his novels, orwell was least satisfied with this one, which was originally published in 935. orwell left instructions that, aftter his death, it was not to be reprinted. however he also did consent to the printing of cheap editions "of any book which may bring in a few pounds for my heirs" following his death.
