jacob's room

fourth printing, 1929.

jacob, the main character of woolf's third novel, is presented almost entirely through others' perceptions of him. those who loved the young man, who died in world war i, struggle to make sense of his life in the wake of his death. woolf based this book partially on her brother thoby, who died in 1906. the work is considered an important modernist text for its experimental form.
