the complete poetry of aimé césaire

first edition, 2017.

bilingual edition gathering césaire’s entire poetic oeuvre, from "cahier d’un retour au pays natal" through the late books. newly established from 2014 french critical texts, this is a definitive and scholarly restoration that clarifies textual histories and returns early poems to their original states.

césaire (1913–2008) was co-founder of the négritude movement alongside léopold sédar senghor and léon-gontran damas. he merged surrealist experimentation with anticolonial revolt, giving voice to martinican identity and black liberation throughout the twentieth century.
