osawatomie anthology

c. 2021.

"osawatomie anthology collects all six issues of the clandestine osawatomie newspaper (1975-76), along with a rare special issue addressing the weather underground's internal split.

the weather underground was a radical left-wing organization that emerged in the late 1960s from a split within the students for a democratic society (sds), then the largest student activist group in the u.s. while sds was broadly a part of the new left, internal divisions grew between those advocating traditional marxist-leninist strategies and others pushing for militant solidarity with black, puerto rican, and anti-colonial liberation movements.

osawatomie was their low-circulation internal newspaper, sent through a network of sympathizers to distribute covertly. its content addresses feminism, anti-imperialism, vietnam, racism, labor struggles, and revolutionary strategy. this anthology republishes the full set of issues, providing rare insight into the political thought and internal dynamics of the weather underground. in today's climate of renewed resistance to racial and social inequality, the publication reemerges as a vital historical document."
