john forrest dillon was a federal judge on the united states circuit courts for the eighth circuit. in 1853, dillon married anna margery price. they had two sons and a daughter. anna and their daughter, annie dillon oliver, died in the sinking of the french ocean liner la bourgogne in july 1898.
john commissioned and edited a commemorative book for private circulation in honor of his late wife. creelman is often cited as a central reporter during the height of yellow journalism
this volume contains related ephemera including a letter from dillon to creelman and two contemporaneous newspaper clippings about the book.
